EVOKA — Trade Mark Filing Brief

Prepared for: JB Solar & Electrical Limited (trading as Evoka)

Date: 26 July 2026  ·  Register: app.iponz.govt.nz

1. The mark

MarkEVOKA
TypeWord mark (plain text — no logo)
Why word markProtects the name itself in any font, colour or logo styling — the strongest, most flexible protection for a brand name. A separate logo mark can be added later.

2. Applicant (owner)

OwnerJB Solar & Electrical Limited
Trading asEvoka
WhyKeeps the mark with the company that already holds the GST, bank and contracts.

3. Domains secured

Domains and the trade mark are separate — the domain is the web address; the trade mark is the legal right to the name in your industry.

4. Pre-filing conflict check

5. Classes to file — Class 9 + Class 42

Paste this wording into IPONZ (use their pre-approved list where possible — cheaper + faster exam).

Class 42 — your services (core)

Class 9 — software as products (core)

Computer software; downloadable mobile applications; downloadable computer software applications.

(Class 35 — advertising/marketing — left out for now. Add later if the marketing side grows.)

7. Cost & timeline

Opposition3-month public window if accepted
Registered~6 months total if unopposed
ProtectionYou are "TM pending" and protected from the filing date — the day you lodge.

8. Do you need an attorney?

No. For an invented word (EVOKA) in standard software classes with a clean register, self-filing online is exactly what IPONZ is built for. An attorney only earns its fee if the mark is opposed, you file overseas (AU / Madrid Protocol), or the mark were borderline descriptive (yours isn't).
